Along the "Road of Memory" - from Grivitsa Memorial Park in Pleven to Turnu Fortress in Turnu Magurele, Romania, 27 cultural and historical sites reveal the common history between the two countries.

Along the Route of Memory you will find the following historical sites and cultural monuments:

  • Regional historical museum in Pleven – the second largest museum in Bulgaria, where on an area of 10,000 sq.m. the historical development of Pleven and the region from ancient times to the present day is presented.
  • Gallery "Donation Svetlin Rusev" – the exhibition presents 422 works of art – paintings, graphics, sculptures, icons, watercolors and drawings from the personal collection of Academician Svetlin Rusev, which he donated to his native Pleven in 1984.
  • Panorama "Pleven Epic 1877" – the only art museum of its kind in Southeast Europe. The picturesque canvas recreates part of III storming of the glorious Pleven epic during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78.
  • Chapel – Mausoleum “St. George the Victorious” – a unique monument of culture and architecture, perpetuating the memory and preserving the bones of those who died in the Pleven epic of 1877, known and unknown warriors from the multinational Russian imperial army and the young Romanian army
  • Medieval fortress "Turnu"" in Turnu Magurele – built in XIV century by the Wallachian voivode Mircea cel Batran. The fortress was part of the defense system in the fight against the Ottoman conquerors, which he led together with the Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Shishman.
  • Central Park /Public Garden/ in Turnu Magurele –created in 1876 by Romanian gardeners based on the model of the Prater Park in Vienna. Here you will walk under the shade of exotic trees such as the “Sophora japonica”, which blooms in August, the unique chestnut “Aesculum hipocastanum”, the pale pink flowers of the “Paeonia arborea” and the sunny yellow flowers and evergreen leaves of the “Mahonia aquifolium”.

 

Traveling along the Memory Route, you will have the opportunity to see many more museums, monuments of culture and architecture, archaeological reserves, remains of majestic fortresses and cities, and natural landmarks, which are historical evidence of the centuries-old ties between Bulgaria and Romania.
